Where can I get a good curly haircut in Venice, FL?
For curly and textured hair, the right hair salon is the one that reads your curl pattern, density, and porosity before any tool moves. At Scott Farmer Hair Salon in Venice FL, every curly cut starts with my Pre-Cut Read consultation. I am not a curl-specific brand-certified specialist, and I will tell you that straight. I am a Master Cosmetologist with 30+ years across every hair type, and the Pre-Cut Read consultation maps density, growth pattern, porosity, and lifestyle, which is exactly what a curly cut needs planned before the first dry section drops. Women’s curly cuts run $75. Men’s curly cuts run $60. Free consultation if you want to talk through your hair before booking.
Curly hair, the master-stylist approach
I am not selling myself as a “curl specialist.” I am selling 30 years of reading every hair type before I cut it.
30 years. 15,000+ heads. Every curly appointment runs through the same five-point read I use on every client: density, growth pattern, porosity, lifestyle, and what the last three stylists missed. Curly hair needs that read more than straight hair, not less. That is what makes the difference, not a curl-cert sticker.
Density and curl pattern first
I read whether your curl is a wave, a true curl, or a coil before any section is parted. The cut shape comes from the read, not a template.
Cut to the curl, not against it
Curls fall where they want when they are dry. I cut with that in mind so your hair shapes itself between visits instead of fighting the cut.
Maintenance built into the appointment
You leave with a home routine that fits your real morning, not a curl product wishlist. The cut has to work without 30 minutes of finishing.
The honest version of “curly hair specialist”
The Venice and Sarasota market has a lot of stylists claiming “curly hair specialist.” Some of them have a brand certification (DevaCurl, Rezo, Ouidad). Some of them just have a tag on their Instagram. I am neither. What I have is 30 years and 15,000 clients across every hair type, including extensive work with curly and textured clients. I do not sell my work as a brand-certified curl specialty. I sell it as a master-stylist consultation that reads curly hair the same way it reads every other hair type, with the depth that comes from three decades of cutting.
If you have a 3B or 4A natural pattern and you want a stylist who lives and breathes curl-cult method-only work, I will tell you that is not me, and I will respect your choice to book one. If you want a Master Cosmetologist who reads your hair before he touches it and builds a cut that works for your lifestyle, that is what I do.
Why the Pre-Cut Read works on curls
The Pre-Cut Read is a structured five-point consultation I run before any service: density, growth pattern, porosity, lifestyle, and recent color or chemical history. Curly hair amplifies every one of those reads. Density decides how much weight to remove. Growth pattern decides where the cowlick sits and how the part will fall when dry. Porosity decides which products will hold the curl pattern and which will weigh it down. Lifestyle decides whether the cut needs to survive a ponytail Tuesday or hold a finished style for hair-down editorial wear. Five minutes of structured looking saves six weeks of fighting the cut.
How I approach a curly haircut
1. Read your hair dry, then wet, then dry again. Dry first because that is how your hair lives. Wet during the cut because that is when I shape it. Dry again at the end so we can both see the actual result, not a wet illusion.
2. Cut in the curl’s natural direction. Sections follow the way the curl actually falls, not horizontal partings copied from a straight-hair manual. The cut shape is built around how the curl will return after every wash.
3. Build maintenance into the cut. The cut has to work in your real morning routine. If you have 5 minutes, the cut needs to look right in 5 minutes. If you have 25 minutes with a diffuser, that is a different cut. I plan for the routine you actually do.
4. Plan the next visit at this visit. Curly hair grows back into itself faster than straight hair because the volume hides the length. We book the next cut window when the current cut still has shape, not when it has fallen apart.
What I will not do
- I will not tell you I am a brand-certified curl specialist when I am not. I am a Master Cosmetologist who reads curly hair the same way I read every hair type, with 30 years of context.
- I will not cut your curls without a consultation. The Pre-Cut Read decides the shape, not a photo on your phone.
- I will not use cutting techniques on your hair that I am not confident in. There are stylists in Sarasota and Venice who do nothing but DevaCut or Rezo cut. If your goal needs that specific technique, I will say so.
- I will not send you out with a “wishlist” of seven curl products. The home routine I recommend has to work in your real morning, not in a salon chair under perfect lighting.
Pick the right service
Is this the right salon for your curls?
Here is the deal. Curly hair has a wide range. Below is an honest map of which row fits the master-stylist approach and which row may fit a brand-certified curl specialist better.

|---|---|---|
| Wavy hair (1C-2C) wanting shape and weight | Yes, book a Pre-Cut Read | Master-stylist consultation handles this directly |
| Curly hair (3A-3B) wanting a real shape, not a poof | Yes, book a Pre-Cut Read | 30 years of reading curl pattern and density |
| Curly hair growing out a bad cut from another salon | Yes, book a consultation | Repair-first approach, plan the grow-out |
| Curls plus color or balayage | Yes, this is my lane | Schwarzkopf color with bond-builder, planned together |
| Strict curl-cult method only (DevaCut, Rezo) | Honest answer: probably not | I am not brand-certified in those specific techniques |
| 3C-4C coil pattern, brand-certified routine only | Honest answer: ask first | Text a photo to (941) 599-4868 and I will tell you straight |
Not sure which row is you? Text a recent dry photo of your hair plus your goal photo to (941) 599-4868. I will tell you the right answer before you book, even if the right answer is a different salon.

Curly hair FAQ
Are you a DevaCurl or Rezo certified stylist?
No. I do not hold a brand-specific curl certification. I am a Master Cosmetologist with 30+ years and 15,000+ clients across every hair type, and the Pre-Cut Read consultation reads curly hair the same way it reads every other hair type. If your goal requires a specific brand technique, I will say so before you book.
Do you cut curls wet or dry?
I read your hair dry first, then cut during a wet section after the consultation, then finish dry. Reading dry first is the part most stylists skip and the part that decides whether the shape works in your actual life.
What if I am unsure whether your approach fits my curls?
Text a current dry photo of your hair plus a photo of the goal to (941) 599-4868. I will tell you straight whether the master-stylist approach fits your hair and your goal, or whether a curl-specific stylist in Sarasota fits better. The honest answer matters more to me than the booking.
How often do curly cuts need a refresh?
Most curly cuts in my chair refresh every 10 to 14 weeks. Curls grow back into themselves more slowly than straight hair, so the visit window is longer. We plan the next visit at the current visit.
Do you do curly hair color?
Yes. Custom color and balayage on curly hair is one of my regular service combinations. Schwarzkopf professional with bond-builder built in. Planned together with the cut at consultation.
